March 29, 2012Family Activity Night - Seder Meal
Dear Parents,
Grace and peace to you as we enter Autumn, 2011. Autumn can be a hectic time as school activities kick up and we fall back into busy routines with our children. Football, soccer, hockey – there seems to be no shortage of activities to draw us away from our homes, and yet, we find ourselves enjoying the crisp outdoors and the changing fall colors. The autumn feast days in our church calendar offer many wonderful reminders of our ongoing call to live as a disciple regardless of where we find ourselves. For example, on September 21, we celebrated the feast of St. Matthew, one of the first disciples to follow our Lord, who was a “tax collector and sinner;” on October 1, we celebrate St. Therese of Lisieux’s feast, the saint known as the “little flower” for her simple and yet total focus on Jesus in her life; On November 1 and 2 we celebrate All Saints and All Souls days, reminding us that ordinary people like us are called to be holy, and that we are all connected to one another as members of Christ’s Body, beyond time and place.
How are you and your family living as people who are called to holiness? As you take walks, enjoy the outdoors, or watch children’s sporting events this autumn, I hope you will remember that each of us is drawn into relationship with our Lord as the persons we are, as varied as the colorful autumn leaves, meant to draw others to Christ as the saints who have preceded us, through our words and actions, our attitudes and witness.
We have many opportunities for you to learn and grow in your faith with others at our parish in the coming year. Our next Family Activity Night is March 29, 2012 at 6:30 pm. The topic is Seder Meal. It is going to be a wonderful evening of sharing and family time together – I am really looking forward to it!
May Christ who is our light and life be with you now and throughout this autumn.
Autumn Family Prayer
Good and gracious God,
You create us to be people who bring your love into our world.
This autumn we have many reminders of your call to be witnesses and disciples, people who follow your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, with our hearts and with our lives.
Help us to remember that you call us as the people we are, to live in holiness through the simple moments of daily life.
Strengthen us to be willing to live as your children;
give us the courage to follow your path, and the willingness to accept your forgiveness when we fail.
For you are God who urges us and consoles us, now and forever. Amen.
